On an interesting note, American bits and tack embellished with crescent moons on them like this have some unique history: the crescent moon originated from the Islamic crescent moon, introduced to the Spanish when the Moors conquered them during the middle ages; later on the Spanish conquered southwestern America, starting the American tradition of embellishing western tack with crescent moons.
